HOUSING
Start babies in an enclosure as small as 10 gallons. At around a year old, you can increase the size of the enclosure. There are several kinds that work well, e.g. glass aquariums and any of the commercially available plastic-type reptile cages. For yearlings, step up to an enclosure that is at least 30″ x 12″ inches (like Zilla critter cage 20 Long) or go bigger like a 36″ x 12″ (Exo Terra Large, or Zilla 40 gal). A shy boa baby will feel more secure if there is a hide for them on the cool side and the warm side of the enclosure (more about that in the heating section). Buy dumeril boa, For an adult, you will want a custom enclosure or one of the large 5+ foot molded. dumerils boa for sale
Dumeril’s boas (not to be confused with the Madagascar ground boa) are ground-dwelling, ovoviviparous snakes native to the spiny thickets/forests in the southwestern region of Madagascar, a large island off the southeast coast of Africa. This part of Madagascar is quite dry, unlike the rainforest people usually associate with the island.
Dumeril’s boas are nocturnal, meaning they are most active at night. They are also constrictors, using powerful muscles to squeeze their prey until it passes out (a relatively quick process — within seconds, according to this study).
Dumeril’s boas demonstrate a lot of variation in adult size, ranging anywhere from 4’-8’ long. They generally average around the 6′ mark, but some females have been reported as large as 10’. Dumeril’s boas also grow and mature slowly — taking about 5 years to reach full adulthood — but live between 15 to 20 years in captivity, with some living even longer.

The Boa Constrictor Manual (Advanced Vivarium Systems) does NOT disappoint. The text is well organized and exceptionally informative–can’t think of a topic that is not covered. Boa constrictor keepers should ALL own this text IMHO. I have always felt that Philippe De Vosjoli is one of the TOP experts. I trust him implicitly and am pleased to see that he has changed his philosophy somewhat in terms of more than a bare-bones approach to vivarium setups. His advice is practical, well-founded, and critical to the keeping of boas. {BTW, I have decades of experience with reptiles and a substantial Herp library, so I am speaking from some experience.}

This is the perfect hook, balanced and lightweight but also sturdy. I expect this to last the entirety of the time I’ll have use for it. Don’t waste your money on a $10 or $20 snake hook, just do it right the first time!

New to owning a snake. This book helped a lot with learning the different things you need to know about them. Very informative. Would definitely recommend to owners of boa’s who want to know more about them.

This book had some good information but was actually a bit lighter than was looking for. Also, and perhaps this is common wth exotic pet keeping, some of the information contradicted other published sources. I only paid a few bucks for a lightly used copy and so i’m satisfied, but i will be buying the more expensive and highly acclaimed “Complete Boa Constrictor” by Vincent Russo as my go-to.

I’ve had this book in paperback form for probably 13-14 years (just bought the Kindle version), and it’s my go-to reference when I think my Dumeril’s Boa might be sick. The last chapter about diseases and health conditions is extremely helpful. I read it from cover-to-cover when I first got my snake, and it was a great primer for me as a first-time snake mom.

I have this version and the 43 inch version. Both are exceptionally well made and designed. There is an angle all the way around making it easier to pickup snakes from all angles. The handle is nice and tacky , the weight is good, it just works perfectly.

Arrived quickly. Better quality than expected for the reasonable price. Many have commented on the hook being well balanced, and I have to agree.

Found very informative for keeping and breeding your RTB’s.
